The smoothing plane is used to put the final finish on your work. (Less work and a far better finish than sanding.) The coffin plane is great: just get behind it and push all day! It’s good for large surfaces too!
Dimensions of the coffin plane are 7.5″ X 3″ X 2.75″ with a 2″ iron 5″ long. This plane has an adjustable mouth to compensate for wear. A very tight mouth produces extremely fine shavings and little tear-out. The plane is available with a 45° iron for normal use on most woods. A 50° iron for figured and most woods, 55° for high figured woods, or a 60° iron for use on very figured woods is available. With a 45° and 1/4″ thick iron, this finish plane will slice curly maple with little or no tear-out. This plane works great with small to large hands.

These awls are offered by Chester Tool Works. (Woods from top are: East Indian Rosewood, Gabon Ebony, Brazilian Tulipwood.)
Tired of awls which won't hold a point and which bend during use? CTW awls are designed for hand comfort and durability. The O-1 tool steel blades are taper ground and hardened to Rc 62-63 for approximately 2 inches of their length and terminate in a fine point. The handles are, like the marking knives, made from exotic and figured domestic or tropical hardwoods and are available to match the marking knives. They are also available in customs sizes and woods by special order. Use them to start screws, mark drilling locations, or even in place of a marking knife to scribe layout lines.

These knives are offered by Chester Tool Works. (Woods from top are: Snakewood, Gabon Ebony, Brazilian Tulipwood, East Indian Rosewood.)
Marking knives need to hold an edge well, be stiff enough not to flex, and they must be narrow enough to fit into confined areas such as dovetails. CTW marking knives are made from 3/32" thick precision ground O-1 tool steel and are 5/16" wide. The blades are individually hardened to Rockwell C 62-63 so they will hold an edge and they are shipped honed and ready to use. I feel that tools should be ready to go and should not be sold as a "kit". Knives are roughly 7 1/2 " long overall and are shaped in what I call a pencil form. Everyone uses pencils and pens and you should immediately feel comfortable holding and using this knife. A fine tool for the serious hand tool user.

CTW plane adjusting hammers are designed specifically for adjusting the blades and wedges of wooden planes and infill hand planes. The polished brass and Lignum Vitae head is weighted toward the brass striking end and is designed so it won't mar or mushroom your blade like a steel hammer. The Lignum end is of a smaller diameter and is used to tap the heel or toe of the plane to adjust the blade without leaving dent mark in the wooden body. It should also be used to tap plane wedges tight to prevent damaging the heel of the wedge. The handles are individually shaped from quartersawn White Ash with the grain oriented to avoid the runout which weakens many other hammer handles. Finished with 3 coats of boiled linseed oil, the handles provide a good grip and avoid the slipperiness of the more commonly used lacquer finish. If you own or use infill or wooden planes, you owe it to your planes to use one of these hammers. Total weight is 8 ounces.
